Congress approves $2.4 million for National Trauma Institute

San Antonio Business Journal - October 1, 2008

The National Trauma Institute is slated to receive a $2.4 million federal appropriation that should help advance trauma treatment for soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The institute is part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The funding will make the National Trauma Institute the primary site for trauma research in the United States.

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, made the announcement. Congress approved the funding in its Fiscal Year 2009 Military Construction-Veterans Affairs Spending Bill. “The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio instructs many of the extraordinary medical professionals who care for our wounded servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Hutchison says. “These funds will allow our trauma specialists to utilize the best medical technology and personnel available to improve treatments for those injured in combat.”
